Shaded Relief for Maps
Different colors and styles for shaded relief are available. If you are using just lines on the map a multicolored shaded relief will work great. If you are using fills in your Illustrator file, than a white shaded relief will work best. With the white shaded relief you can you use transparency on the other layers to get the right effect.
